Piątkowe Picie: Wiśniewski🍒, The Gdańsk Bar That Sells Only ONE Product

“Cherries are the team for me” – AFC Bournemouth fans.

This is nuts. Actually, it’s not nuts, it’s Cherries. There is a bar in Gdańsk that sells only ONE product. And I’ve walked past it about 100 times. This month, for some weird reason, I decided to go inside. Despite living in the seaside city for 6 months and visiting. Just after Cherries secured a Desmond with Aston Villa in December 2023, I headed in here! By complete coincidence, THREE crazy things happened then.
1.A Polish guy came in and saw my shirt – he is mates with a friend of an Aston Villa goalkeeper and was at AFC Bournemouth 2-0 Aston Villa in 2022 (ironically we had played them THAT day too!).
2.A Leeds United fan from Leeds came in – I had been in Leeds 6 days earlier!

Wisniewski opened in Gdansk in 2018, and it is a unique bar in the world and it sells only one product. It sells its own homemade Cherry 🍒 Vodka 🥛.

Despite fully knowing that wisnia translates as cherry, it never twigged on me that the name Wisniewski is the name of the drink they sell which is therefore CHERRIES!! It’s an alcoholic Cherry 🍒 drink.

So, after finding out that we (AFC Bournemouth) had secured a 2-2 home draw with second placed Aston Villa, I was walking down one of my favourite streets in the world when I suddenly felt the urge to pop into Wisniewski! 6 Years after it opened!! I was finally popping my Wisniewski Cherry!

Bar staff were Ola and Ines and I ordered up a 🍒 🥛. The price was 16 zlotych.

As soon as I sat down, I saw a gentleman and his wife walk in and order two drinks. I invited them to sit in the two empty seats beside me. They were from Leeds!! Arch rivals of Bournemouth and a place I had been exactly one week earlier! On my trip to Sheffield, we left England from Leeds Bradford Airport!!

They had their drinks and left but caught in the magical moment, I ordered another one.

Again just after ordering, more customers came in and this time, I invited them to join me again. It was 5 girls! 2 Polish, 2 English and…1 Northern Irish girl. Crazy.

This was Donna from Fermanagh. After that it was time to leave. My one and only visit to the bar that sells only one product. They cornered a niche!

Oh and please don’t confuse this bar with Drunk Cherry (Pijany Wiśnia) which is a different place. Drunk Cherry is a chain and they have a few bars around different cities in Poland. Oh and they also sell more than just one product.

This makes Wisniewski, still nicheingly unique.
