Piątkowe Picie: The Best Bars and Cafes in Kętrzyn, Mazury Province

When my reader vote for September 2017 sent me back to Poland’s Mazury Province, I wasn’t prepared for the madness that ensued. It meant touring the city of Olsztyn in more detail than before, a solemn trip to Wilczy Szaniec (Wolf’s Lair) and two nights in the town of Kętrzyn, where I stayed in the cosy Hotel Wanda. This trip also meant i had time to go exploring the towns bars and cafes and here is what I found.

1.Hotel Wanda Bar
My first beer in Kętrzyn was in the hotel bar. I had a Zywiec and it was 6złotych. A simple bar with some nice local pictures on the wall. I also had my breakfast here twice. In summers the hotel has an outdoor beer garden.

2.Pizzeria Cois
I was surprised to learn that this pizzeria is realistically also one of the best bars/ pubs in town! I assumed when i walked in that it was just a pizza joint but it was my favourite bar on my two nights here. I met lots of locals here.

Try the Grzane Piwo Malinowy (Hot Raspberry Beer) and the local regional pizza – Pizza Mazurskie. Since relocating to Poland in 2016, the country helped rid my despise of mushrooms oddly. So i was happy with my mushroom, ham and onion pizza. Staff are friendly and inside it’s of wooden furnish.

3.City Club
The town’s best (only) nightclub. I had a quick visit to check it out. I’m not really a party or nightclub person anymore but City Club also acts as a restaurant and bowling alley. With mirrors on the wall, a huge dancefloor and local bottled beer for 6złotych it’s the best place to be seen in the early hours of the morning.

4.Centro Pub
In terms of a local here, Centro Pub has the nearest feel to this. It’s bang in the town centre obviously. It’s joined to a pizza restaurant and even has Guinness ( in bottles).

It’s a small venue with a frontal beer garden and wasn’t too busy on my visit.

5.Stara Kamienica
A quaint and sophisticated cafe come restaurant come bar, Stara Kamienica is the chill out spot. I had their delicious meat pierogi for lunch and tried their grzaniec (hot mulled wine).

Downstairs there is a hall which can be booked out for events. The antique decor gives it a flavour similar to Klubokawiarnia Szafa in Starogard Gdański and Stara Kaflarnia in Biskupiec.

6.Kardamon
Kardamon is located in the heart of downtown Kętrzyn literally as part of the city hall (Urząd Miasto). It’s a cosy spot with good food, relaxed atmosphere and stylish seats.

7.Winners Sports Bar
A gem of a find and one I discovered late on the Saturday night just as I was wanting an early night.

Winners is a stylish Sports Bar and was actually the type of bar I was craving. Nice interior with quirks such as a tank with two lizards in it, a framed and signed Arka Gdynia shirt on the wall.

Accompany this with 4hot bar girls and it was a delightful end to my evening. I actually wanted a photo of the 4girls to use on here but shyly they declined. Name checked though as Zaneta, Olga, Ada, Kamila. Zaneta was my pick – a hot thing.

However one of the girls gave me a blowjob. Of the shot variety only. This time I kept my willy in my pants. Sensibly so.

8.ToTu Cafe
The best cafe in town. ToTu Cafe was on the same street as my hotel and serves up great coffee, cakes and sweet treats. It also has fast WiFi and a tidy interiors with games for children.

There are a few more cafes and bars in town which I know I missed but we don’t have time for everything in life.
