“In Dublin’s Fair city where the girls are so pretty, I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone” – James Yorkston.
For Saint Patrick’s Day parties in Poland, this year’s was my favourite yet and that’s my FIFTH time to celebrate it here. On 17th March 2023, I decided to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in Klubokawiarnia Kicia Kocia in Grochow in Warszawa. This is a great bar, on the Praga side of the Wisla river. First up though here are some interesting articles about Saint Patrick as well as some Northern Irish and Polish links…
It was well organised, great fun and an eclectic mix of people. Plus the bar queues were not too ridiculous and the choice of beers (tap and fridge) is excellent here at Klubokawiarnia Kicia Kocia . I got there around 18.30 in the evening – it was just getting dark and I met Malgosia the organiser, she was suitably dressed in green.
I had a table at the back but near where the band played, and later near the dancefloor for the Irish dancers! You can guess which table, as my flag was on it…
Typical songs on the night would include Starr of The County Down, Belle of Belfast City, Fields of Athenry and of course Molly Malone. For those not aware of the words for Sweet Molly Malone, the owner kindly printed them and put a copy on every table…
The Polish-Irish dancers and musicians were a brilliant surprise too – playing renditions of Molly Malone, Star Of The County Down, The Fields Of Athenry and Whiskey In The Jar. The craic was mighty and I had 3 different types of beer on the night.
1.Polish Green Sour Kwas (8/10)
2.Irish Guinness (9/10)
3.USA Brooklyn Lager (4/10).
Thanks to Malgosia for the organisation and the bands.
Come and visit this great bar! I drank with a few Polish friends and was also joined by a few Irish people who I hadn’t met before.
