Hostel Review: Poco Loco Hostel, Poznań

Poznań is pretty, let’s get that one out of the way to begin with. I like Poznań, I nicknamed it “Pozzie” such was its endearment to me in 2015, my first real visit to the city. It did feel hard to believe that it had taken so long, to tour Poznań finally. I had actually passed through the city of Poznań in March 2005 when I was on a train from Berlin in Germany to Warsaw in Poland. Now I had a reunion with my travel friends and a cool hostel to stay in.

So here I was in Poznań for real looking for a cosy hostel. I really had no idea what to expect as it had been a while since I had toured Poland, despite having worked with lots of Polish people in the intervening years and even visiting the Polish Antarctic station at Arctowski. So I booked into the cosy Poco Loco Hostel near the Stary Rynek (old town square) and took things from there. This hostel is the perfect place if you are backpacking in Poznań and here are 5 reasons why I loved it.

1.Perfect Location

The Poco Loco Hostel is not in the Old Town like some others, which means you are perfectly located half way between the Old Town and the Train and bus station. Get off your train, walk to the hostel and then dumps your bags off and explore the Old Town. It’s also on Taczaka Street which is in an area boasting good bars, cafes and restaurants. I toured the bars of Poznan and enjoyed my first ever Grzane Piwo here too, in Basilium Bar.

2.Relaxing Lounge

It’s always nice to have a cosy social area to chill out in. The lounge here is relaxing and there is also a cool sofa and lots of tourist information in the reception area too. It’s a perfect place to chill and plan your next trip.

3.Free Breakfast

Breakfast is free from 7.30 – 10 am every day including cereals, tea/coffee and bread, salad and meat. Tea and coffee is also free 24/7. Always a bonus.

4. WiFi

Poland is now becoming a cool hip WiFi place for bloggers and backpackers. Not only do some of the coolest travel bloggers come from Poland, but there are some great cafes and bars for Digital Nomads now too. But sure, just chill in the Poco Loco and make use of the excellent fast WiFi.

5.Cleanliness Awards

The hostel is clean and comfortable, winning awards for it down the years, so you feel spotless hanging out here and ahead of your next journey. A quick shower and I headed on a night train to Krakow next!

So get yourself to Poznań, it is now one of my favourite cities in Poland, with maybe just Gdańsk and Warszawa shading it. I was backpacxking there and visiting two local ladies. Here are the details for your stay in the Poco Loco. It’s a little crazy. So it is.
