It’s been a while since I did a few cool hostel reviews on here, as I made my travel writing name on a lifetime of global backpacking before settling into life in Poland. But I returned to my deep backpacking roots recently with a visit to Kraków in Poland. I covered Kraków on here before back in 2015. At the time I visited Kazimierz district, toured the Old Town, Wawel Castle and Schindler’s Factory. I also visited the notorious German Death Camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau. Since the Northern Irishman in Poland project started, I’ve been back to Kraków quite regularly.
My latest return to the city would see me attempt to visit some more of Poland’s UNESCO world heritage sites including Bochnia. I based myself at the popular Pink Panther’s Hostel. Here are five reasons why I recommend you to stay here – the Pink Panther’s Hostel is a perfect spot for a young backpacker in Kraków!
1 The Hostel Has A Party Atmosphere
Pink Panther’s Hostel has a true party hostel atmosphere which reminded me of my hardcore backpacking days. On my first night here there was a Superheroes Party with a few guests dressed up. There was also karaoke and a drinking session in the kitchen and lounge with vibrant singing and lots of beer and vodka. I got in on the act even though I often feel like a veteran whackpacker these days in a crowd of youngsters.
2.The hostel has Typical Cosy Dorms
The Pink Panther’s Hostel is located on the third floor of a typical Polish terraced building in the heart of Kraków Old Town. I enjoyed my return to this lifestyle and the dorms are cosy – the hostel has lots of beds all squeezed into compact dorms and I was in a nice six bed dorm with some Dutch and US guests.
3.A Superb Old Town location
I like to sleep central these days to be near all the key sights and this is why the location of Pink Panther’s Hostel is important. It is in the heart of Kraków’s well known UNESCO listed Old Town, which is a real bonus and also one of my targets for this year. In fact, despite visiting the city a lot, this was the first time I had slept in the actual Kraków Old Town as my previous nights here were spent outside it.
The location made it easy for me to get around the main sights by day and bars, pubs and clubs by night. The bar opposite the hostel has beers for 4 zlotych (78 pence) and there are plenty of good spots nearby too.
4.Free Wi-Fi
As a person who relies on Wi-Fi to work, blog and social media myself, I need Wi-Fi. Of course Pink Panther’s Hostel is fully equipped with fast and free WiFi throughout, it even worked in my room, albeit slower.
5.Free Breakfast
Breakfast is included in the price which is always a bonus for a cheap tourist and bacxkpacker. It’s a buffet breakfast from 8 am to 10 am with cereal, toast, cheese, salami, jam, coffee etc.
The Pink Panther’s hostel also provides discounts on tours, information on how to organise tours and they organise all sorts of events like pub crawls. In the hostel you can also buy snacks and drinks from the fridge and the dispenser. Condoms are also sold in the dispenser to ensure safe sex.
