Hostel Review: Staying at the Green Hostel in Historic Toruń

As I mentioned in late 2017 after finishing my “visit every Province in Poland” challenge, I needed something new. Being cemented in pretty Poland pumped my heart beat to a vivacious level of sentimentality. Destiny sent me here, and it was clear now. So – by the end of 2018 I aim to have visited every UNESCO listed world heritage site in Poland. I had a slow start to it. Depression caused by liars, a work trip to Saudi Arabia and adjusting to long term life in Poland took their toll. But I am finally back on track and will be up for the challenge. I hope so, remember I am one of the few honest and genuine travel bloggers still in existence. No cow excrement and no rubbish about my life being better than yours. It’s not – I have deep depression and I fight for honesty and justice, day on day. None of us are any better or any worse remember. God loves you.

In May 2018 I returned to Gdańsk (I still cannot believe no place in that city is yet UNESCO listed). My next trip was to Toruń, the home of Mikołai Kopernik, (Nikolaus Kopernikus) famous Polish astronomer. He was the man who decided once and for all that the earth is not the centre of the universe and that the earth and the other planets revolve around the sun.

Toruń had somehow escaped my radar so far! I had backpacked nearby Bydgoszcz, Elbląg, Malbork, Tczew and Starogard Gdański but missed Toruń. It was time.

Toruń ‘s old town is a UNESCO listed world heritage site and had to be seen. I decided to stay at the excellent Green Hostel in the heart of the Old Town and backpack the sights from there. Yes the Green Hostel! As a Zielonic green Northern Irishman I love anything green. I stayed in the Green Hostel in Gdynia in 2017 and in Brazil’s Foz do Iguacu in 2014. This hostel in Toruń also proved an inspired choice. Here is an overview on the hostel and tomorrow I’ll write about the sights of Toruń.

1.Clean cosy rooms
I stayed in a two bed dorm on the top floor. I was in room 42. Clean and cosy with a TV and a view of the Old Town. All rooms are immaculate, modern and fresh feeling. perfect having just arrived off a bus from the northern city of Gdańsk.

2.Fast Wi-Fi
There was fast Wi-Fi in my room and throughout the hostel. This is always a bonus for a travel writer and long term tourist.

3.Fresh and Modern Common Room and Balcony
Once you enter and go up the stairs, there is the reception and a comfortable and sociable common room area. Here you can find your maps, guides to the city. You can meet other tourists, chat, read books, get online or watch TV. The kitchen is adjoined and has free tea and coffee 24 hours a day.

4.Good Viewpoint of the UNESCO Town
My room was room 42 on the top floor and I was lucky to get one at the front, so ask for this one if you can. My morning view over this gorgeous town couldn’t help but inspire me. You see.

5.Superb Location
Location wise, have you ever slept in a UNESCO World Heritage Site before? Here, you are doing it. The entire old town of Toruń is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site, therefore you are sleeping in one. Not only that but the hostel is round the corner from the home of the famous gingerbread from Toruń – the museum about it. You are within minutes walk to the Kopernikus statue, many squares, sights and everything you need to see really!

I cannot recommend the Green Hostel in Toruń enough. Please get in touch when you head to Toruń – you will love it.
